Service Description

The Neurospicy Art Group is an in-person, fortnightly, peer-led art group specifically for people over 35 who identify as neurodivergent (including ADHD and Autism - no formal diagnosis needed). The facilitator and any support people are always neurodivergent. Bring your art project and enjoy a morning of creative community. Meet new people, express you inner artist and have fun while doing it! Don't have a project? Not a problem! There will always be an activity prepared with supplies provided. In addition, there will always be colouring sheets, markers, drawing supplies and basic painting supplies available. You are welcome to bring your own art supplies too. The group is peer-led, and there is no "teaching" done. It's a relaxed and low pressure way to practice your art and to foster community. The group also includes access to a Facebook community page. NOTE: you may be able to use NDIS funding to pay for this group. Please email Marjorie to more info - info@marjoriedrage.com Schedule: - 10 minute introductions and warm up activity. - Work on your art project OR try out the prepared art activity. - About half-way through the session, we'll break for coffee, tea, water and biscuits. - 10 minute clean up at the end. Participation: - Participation is low-pressure and the facilitator will help you settle in and make you feel comfortable. - Attendance is participation. There's no pressure to engage and you can pass on introductions. - You are welcome to leave early or step away for a break at any time. - Carers are welcome to attend and support you, however, if they intend on participating in the activities, they will need to book themselves in separately and pay for the term. Sensory information: - The hall has great natural light and can be supplemented with overhead lighting only if necessary. - There is air conditioning and heating to keep the temperature comfortable. - The space is quiet (no echoes) and surrounded by gardens. There is a quiet spot in the garden outside if you need a break. - Please feel free to bring headphones, earplugs or wear sunglasses. - Fidgets and stimming are welcome as long as they don't bother others. Special notes: - This is not a registered art therapy group, and no therapy is provided. - A facilitator (or two) will be on hand for assistance and guidance. - Please note that the venue is accessible, including accessible toilets. - Free parking is available on site, and the venue is close to the Jamison bus stops.
