Service Description

5 × 2-hour sessions | $200 | Saturdays | Jamison The Queer & Spicy Art Group is an in-person, fortnightly neurodivergent art group for LGBTQIA+ adults over 35 in Canberra. The program is designed for and led by queer, neurodivergent people. Come and try out new mediums while meeting neurokin, expressing your inner artist and having fun while doing it! Each session a new activity will be provided including supplies. It's a relaxed and low pressure way to try new things, express your creativity, and to foster community. Online Community: - When you join the Queer & Spicy Art Group, you also get access to the Neurospicy Community - an online space to chat, share, connect and keep in touch between sessions. Participation: - Participation is low-pressure and the facilitator will help you settle in and make you feel comfortable. - Attendance is participation. While we welcome chats, silence is perfectly fine too. - There's no pressure to engage and you can pass on introductions. - You are welcome to leave early or step away for a break at any time. - Support people are welcome to attend, however, if they intend on participating in the activities, they will need pay for the term. Sensory information: - The room has great natural light and can be supplemented with overhead lighting only if necessary. - There is air conditioning and heating to keep the temperature comfortable. - The space is quiet (no echoes) and surrounded by gardens. - Please feel free to bring headphones, earplugs or wear sunglasses. - Fidgets and stimming are welcome as long as they don't bother others. Scaffolding and prompts: - Every session is structured to make joining in easier. Introduction and conversation prompts and scaffolding help people get to know one another, and a prepared art activity gives everyone somewhere to start. Special notes: - This is not a registered art therapy group, and no therapy is provided. - Please note that the venue is accessible, including accessible toilets. - Free parking is available on site, and the venue is close to the Jamison bus stops.
