Who are the Neurospicy and Queer & Spicy Art Groups for?

I'm in the midst of getting ready to host a new term of the Queer & Spicy and Neurospicy Art Groups, which means I am busy getting equipment and ideas together, buying art materials and preparing special items (like pressing flowers for the cyanotype class)!

You might be wondering if this is the right art group for you. It might be a good fit for you if...

  • You like making things, but you don't enjoy mainstream art classes.

  • You'd like to meet other neurodivergent adults and make authentic connections without having to mask.

  • You'd like to try different art materials, but don't want to buy everything yourself.

  • You want to express your creativity, but you feel anxious about being a beginner.

  • You're over 35 and finding it harder to meet new people (for the Neurospicy group).

  • You're finding it hard to meet new LGBTQIA+ neurodivergent people (for the Queer & Spicy art group).

The group is relaxed, flexible and low-pressure, and all creative abilities are catered for. The main philosophy of the group is to let go of being perfect, let go of judgement, just have a go and have some fun!

All equipment and supplies (and snacks) are provided so all you have to do is show up. There are supports for helping participants make introductions and conversation (or you can opt out) and you can bring fidgets, headphones and wear comfy clothing to help you feel more settled. There's no competition between participants to create stunning artworks, and everyone's level and abilities are welcome and encouraged.

This is what a recent participant said about the group:

"The things I enjoyed the most about the art group is how relaxed and flexible is the atmosphere. I like that it is a fairly small group and there is always seats at the table.

I liked that we aren't required to interact with others and that you provide conversation starters but also people can opt out. I also found the group validating...I like that materials are always provided and instructions are easy to follow including following your example for kinetic learners. It is low sensory input environment which works very well for me."

You also get access to the Neurospicy community!

  • Continue the conversation online with your new friends between art group sessions.

  • Access to free monthly events, like gallery visits, drawing sessions and walks.

  • A newsletter where you get to hear first about upcoming art groups, workshops and free community events. You also get access to special offers and discounts, neurodivergent tips and ideas and a peek at what's happening in my studio.
